Beginning Our Family Story Badge

At our Dec. 3 meeting we began work on our second badge as Brownies, My Family Story.  The girls sat in groups to share a special story about their family and their family photo.  They then created a family ornament to hang in their homes using their family photos.

 

 

We Have Earned Our First Badge!

Thank you to Dr. Gardino for coming to speak with us at our last meeting to help us complete our Be My Best Self Badge. The girls learned a great deal about how to keep their teeth healthy. Dr. Gardino was impressed with all of the knowledge that the girls already had! Way to go Brownie parents! Thank you to Olivia for being our hostess at the meeting. Annabelle will be our hostess at the Dec. 3 meeting. We will begin our next badge, My Family Story, and complete our final piece of our Discovery Key Quest at the next meeting. The girls voted that their community connection for the final Discovery Key would be to clean up our school grounds. After completing our first activity for the My Family Story badge at the Dec. 3 meeting, we will go outside for a little while and start our clean up efforts. Items needed at the next meeting: 1. Return parade permission slip 2. Return family recipe sheet (copied by Brownie Scout) 3. Bring a copy of a family photo no larger than 4x6 for a special project. The photo will be used in a craft.

Whole Foods Visit

What a fabulous visit to Whole Foods! The girls enjoyed learning more about healthy eating and tasting four new foods to work toward earning their Be My Best Self badge. We enjoyed spinach/apple smoothie, quinoa, Horned Melon, and Robuton. Yummy! Thank you to Amy and Emily from Whole Foods for such a great experience! The girls should put the patch they received from Whole Foods on the back of their vests.

October 3 Meeting

The girls worked hard today as we began to work on our Be My Best Self badge by completing and All About Me book. We also continued our Discovery Key quest as we learned about how our troop is a team and needs to work together. The girls had fun playing the Hula Hoop Game to demonstrate their teamwork skills. Thank you to Anna for being a wonderful hostess. Also, thank you to Mrs. Wooten and Ms. White for helping us. Our hostess for our October 15 meeting is Ava. We will write our thank you note for our Whole Foods demonstration. We will also continue our badge and quest work. The girls will enjoy a special treat to celebrate Juliette Gordon Low's birthday.

Swaps and Investiture

The girls worked very hard at our meeting to make their SWAPS for Camporee on Sat., Sept. 27 and Sun., Sept. 28. Please be sure to pack them with your camper. We also shared our family stars to finish earning our first Discovery Key as we learn more about the Girl Scout Law. The girls received their Investiture Patch and certificate to welcome them as official members of Brownie Troop 13312. Thank you to Selena for being a wonderful hostess. Also, thank you to Mrs. Mattison, Mrs. Lawler, and Mrs. Davis for helping us!

First Meeting Fun

Here are a few pictures of our first meeting! We had fun searching for clues to earn our first Discovery Key and learn the Girl Scout Law. It was fun to get back into the swing of the meeting routine and see how much the girls have grown! Thank you to Mrs. Lawler, Ms. Davis, and Mrs. Wooten for helping us out. Thank you to Mrs. Catafygiotu for helping to prepare our swaps for our next meeting and to Mrs. Mattison for volunteering to double up on camping training for our troop and the 5th grade troop. Li Mei was a great hostess! Our hostess for our next meeting is Selena. The bottom picture is our troop's newly acquired supply and medical tote for Camporee!

First Meeting- Brownie Discover Keys

Our troop has started a search to discover the important keys of Girl Scouting. The three keys we will uncover along our journey are the keys of Girl Scouting. Today we began work on The Discover Key. In order to finish this key, the girls have brought home an activity to complete for our next meeting. It is a family star that we will share. The girls will receive their first key and the Brownie Investiture certificate at our meeting on Wednesday, September 17.

The Discover Keys explained:
  •The Discover Key –To earn this award, each Girl Scout Brownie will discover herself and her values—as a Girl Scout and a member of her family.
  •The Connect Key –To earn this award, each Girl Scout Brownie will connect as a member of a Brownie Team, with her family on a healthy-living activity, and, as a group with their community to increase healthy-living opportunities
•The Take Action Key –To earn this award, Girl Scout Brownies will team up to identify a community place where the team can Take Action. Then they join together to make a plan to Take Action and carry out their Take Action Project to improve their world
. •The Brownie Quest Award –At the end of the Quest, girls can also earn the journey's culminating award, the master lock that needs all three of their keys in order to open. Through this award, the Brownies will see that, together, their three keys—Discover, Connect, and Take Action—unlock the meaning of leadership.

First Brownie Meeting Fun!

Welcome to Our First Year As Brownies!

I am in the works of planning for our first year as Brownies! I know we are going to have another fun year together in Troop 13312!

I will be sending home an envelope with your Brownie Scout during the second week of school.  It will contain a registration form for this year and other important forms.  Please complete and return all the forms with  a $15 check made payable to GSHS for registration.  You will also need to send a separate check   (or cash) for $30 made out to Troop 13312 for yearly dues.  This will be used to purchase meeting items and badges for the girls.  We earned our tax exempt status over the summer!

Our first meeting date is Wed., Sept. 3 right after school in my classroom.  I would like to try holding most meetings in my classroom this year because it will be nice to have access to the SmartBoard.  We will continue our traveling snack bag as we did last year.  If your Brownie brings the snack bag home, they should return it filled with a simple snack and drink for each Brownie.  We again have 20 girls in our troop!

This year we will begin our first Brownie Quest- It's Your World Change It! and we will work to earn several other badges. Your Brownie Scout will learn the Girl Scout Promise and earn many other fun patches to add to the back of her vest. Speaking of vests, don't forget to make a trip to the Girl Scout Store on White Station to purchase the vest. I have added a picture below to help you understand how to sew the items on.

I will explain where the badges your Brownie earns should go when they are sent home. All badges will be triangle shaped.  As mentioned before, all patches are sewn on the back.

Using Resources Wisely and Make the World A Better Place

Well, we did it! We have earned all of our Daisy petals! I am so proud of the girls! Today we discussed ways to use the resources God gave us on the Earth wisely. We even planted our own bean seeds to add a little extra oxygen to the air we breathe. The girls are excited about watching the sprout and the roots grow. The girls predicted that they will see the roots before the sprout. Time will tell! Thank you to Mrs. Ryan and Mrs. Lawler for helping today. Also, thank you to Aspen for being a wonderful hostess. Our next meeting will be at Build-a Bear in the Wolfchase Mall at 6:00 on Tuesday, April 15. Please have the girls wear their Daisy vests. Also, don't forget that our tour at the St. Jude Pavilion is at 10:00 this coming Saturday morning.

Respect Myself and Others

At our meeting today, we earned our Respect Ourselves and Others Petal. We discussed ways we can respect ourselves by making sure we take care of our bodies and minds. We also celebrated how special we each are by creating a collage of things that tell about our likes and what makes us unique. The girls learned that sharing the coloring books and markers with patients at St. Jude show one way we can respect others and make the world a better place. We will work to earn our Make the World a Better Place Petal when we visit St. Jude on Saturday, April 5. We will also work to earn this petal and the Use Our Resources Wisely petal at our next meeting on April 2. Each girl is asked to bring an empty plastic (recyclable) water bottle that we will turn into a planter. Thank you today to Leila for being such a great hostess. The snack was yummy!
