Welcome to Our First Year As Brownies!

I am in the works of planning for our first year as Brownies! I know we are going to have another fun year together in Troop 13312!

I will be sending home an envelope with your Brownie Scout during the second week of school.  It will contain a registration form for this year and other important forms.  Please complete and return all the forms with  a $15 check made payable to GSHS for registration.  You will also need to send a separate check   (or cash) for $30 made out to Troop 13312 for yearly dues.  This will be used to purchase meeting items and badges for the girls.  We earned our tax exempt status over the summer!

Our first meeting date is Wed., Sept. 3 right after school in my classroom.  I would like to try holding most meetings in my classroom this year because it will be nice to have access to the SmartBoard.  We will continue our traveling snack bag as we did last year.  If your Brownie brings the snack bag home, they should return it filled with a simple snack and drink for each Brownie.  We again have 20 girls in our troop!

This year we will begin our first Brownie Quest- It's Your World Change It! and we will work to earn several other badges. Your Brownie Scout will learn the Girl Scout Promise and earn many other fun patches to add to the back of her vest. Speaking of vests, don't forget to make a trip to the Girl Scout Store on White Station to purchase the vest. I have added a picture below to help you understand how to sew the items on.

I will explain where the badges your Brownie earns should go when they are sent home. All badges will be triangle shaped.  As mentioned before, all patches are sewn on the back.

Using Resources Wisely and Make the World A Better Place

Well, we did it! We have earned all of our Daisy petals! I am so proud of the girls! Today we discussed ways to use the resources God gave us on the Earth wisely. We even planted our own bean seeds to add a little extra oxygen to the air we breathe. The girls are excited about watching the sprout and the roots grow. The girls predicted that they will see the roots before the sprout. Time will tell! Thank you to Mrs. Ryan and Mrs. Lawler for helping today. Also, thank you to Aspen for being a wonderful hostess. Our next meeting will be at Build-a Bear in the Wolfchase Mall at 6:00 on Tuesday, April 15. Please have the girls wear their Daisy vests. Also, don't forget that our tour at the St. Jude Pavilion is at 10:00 this coming Saturday morning.

Respect Myself and Others

At our meeting today, we earned our Respect Ourselves and Others Petal. We discussed ways we can respect ourselves by making sure we take care of our bodies and minds. We also celebrated how special we each are by creating a collage of things that tell about our likes and what makes us unique. The girls learned that sharing the coloring books and markers with patients at St. Jude show one way we can respect others and make the world a better place. We will work to earn our Make the World a Better Place Petal when we visit St. Jude on Saturday, April 5. We will also work to earn this petal and the Use Our Resources Wisely petal at our next meeting on April 2. Each girl is asked to bring an empty plastic (recyclable) water bottle that we will turn into a planter. Thank you today to Leila for being such a great hostess. The snack was yummy! Our hostess for our next meeting is Aspen. Also, thank you to Mrs. Mattison and Mrs. Domas for their help today. A Sister to Every Girl Scout

We had a great meeting today! The girls were very excited to exchange their "secret sister" gifts! Thank you to everyone for doing such a good job with participation. We learned how sisters accept each other for their unique differences and treat each other with kindness. The girls brought home their violet petals today. They had fun creating special sidewalk chalk art with their Daisy sisters. Thank you to Mrs. Wooten and Mrs. Ryan for your help today. Also, thank you to Virginia for being a wonderful hostess. Leila will be our hostess at our next meeting. We won't meet again until Wednesday, March 19! But don't forget, we have Girl Scout Sunday this coming weekend. The girls should dress for Mass, but they may wear their Daisy vest/apron. Please drop your Daisy off by the Family Room. We also have the annual Girl Scout Mardi Gras parade on March 4 at 1:30. Please remember that each Daisy should donate a bag of candy. Don't forget that cookie money should be turned in to Jennifer or me ASAP. Please be sure to send cash or check made payable to Troop 13312.

Responsible for What I Say and Do

We had a great meeting today! The girls reviewed what each petal earned stands for and then we discussed what it means to be responsible. We made special responsibility charts to hang on our bedroom doors to keep track of our responsible actions. Each Daisy Scout also selected a secret pal to bring a homemade gift for at our next meeting. Please remember that the gift should be wrapped and should not cost more than $5. The gift should be labeled with a to and from tag. We will not open the gifts at the meeting. The girls will give their gift to be opened at the end of the meeting and is to be opened at home. The girls will then have a "homework" assignment of making a thank you card. Thanks for your help with this as we work to earn our next petal. We took a special picture today as a special thank you to our parents for helping us sell 1662 boxes of cookies. I also suggested to the girls that they print the picture out (you can save it from the blog) and use it as a thank you note to give with each cookie order that they deliver. Natalie was a fantastic hostess today! The grapes were yummy! Our hostess at the next meeting is Virginia. Thank you to Mrs. Lawler and Mrs. Catafygiotu for your help today!

Karate!

The girls had a great time earning their strong and courageous petals today. Thanks to Mrs. E for teaching us a fun way to keep our bodies strong! Thanks to Olivia F. for being such a great hostess! Our hostess at our Feb. 5 meeting will be Natalie.
